The Department has established a Chair, dedicated to the late Professor of Philosophy of Law, Letizia Gianformaggio. Visiting professors affiliated to foreign Universities are invited to teach for one semester at the University of Ferrara.
Experts in different areas of law will thus enrich the Department’s list of courses, giving students the opportunity to get in touch with legal cultures of other countries.
In 2023-24 the Letizia Gianformaggio Chair will be endowed to Professor Mariolina Eliantonio ( Maastricht University) for a course on "Regulatory structures in EU governance: challenges and opportunities" and Doctor Tzehainesh Teklè for a course on " International labour law".

Macrocrimes - Centre for European Legal Studies on Macro-Crime
Macrocrimes was established at the Department of Law of the University of Ferrara in November 2018, within the framework of a project leading to its acknowledgment as one of the best Departments in Italy in terms of research quality (“Dipartimenti di eccellenza”).
The Centre for European Legal Studies on Macro-Crime focuses on the legal aspects relating to the fight against “macro-crime”, a notion ranging from core crimes – such as war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide and aggression – to crimes entailing grave breaches of fundamental rights, crimes linked to immigration and organized, mafia-type, terrorist and transnational crime, from economic crime to environmental and food crime.

]]>The Law Department’s campus is conveniently located near the town centre, next to the railway station. In 2019 the campus will move to the renovated Palazzo Angeli, a beautiful historic building in the heart of the city centre.
The town is first mentioned in the 9th Century. In 1194 the Este family of Ferrara came into power until 1482, when the area fell under the control of Venice. The streets tell of a city that was enriched with monuments and buildings during medieval times: the Donà Tower, the emblem of the city, and the Mozza tower, the remains of the ancient medieval fortress stand out.
Those coming to Rovigo by plane may consider either the Venice or the Bologna airport.
Rovigo lies on the Bologna-Venezia railway line: less than 20 minutes from Ferrara.
It takes about one hour to reach the city from the station of Venezia Mestre.
Roughly the same time is needed to reach Rovigo from the station of Bologna.

A number of research centres operate at the Department, including a Centre for European Legal Studies on Macro-Crime (Macrocrimes) and a centre carrying out research and providing legal services in the field of international and comparative law (CeStInt). In addition, the Department hosts a major European Documentation Centre (EDC).
Research Visits
The Department of Law regularly hosts foreign visiting scholars. Guest scholars have access to the library and the electronic resources of the Department. Whenever possible, they are assigned a work station at the Department.The conduction of research in one of the areas covered by Macrocrimes is specifically fostered.
